Ethical sourcing is the process of ensuring that the products made are obtained through responsible and sustainable methods taking environmental and social impacts into account.
In New Zealand ethical sourcing starts at the farm gate (fair trade, animal welfare etc.) and goes thru all processes right to the manufacturer of the finished product. The production of New Zealand skins into leather consumer products is a sustainable process: The skin is an unwanted by-product of the meat industry and the production into leather is an upcycling process using a versatile and long-lasting raw material. Leather production reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill and contributes to a healthy environment.
